How to read a.d.a.m.® tablature for recorder

The a.d.a.m.® system shows music using numbers. Sounds serious? Don’t worry — it’s actually super easy😊
You quickly learn all the fingerings and can play familiar melodies without stress or guessing.

You look, you play and... it works! You immediately hear that it sounds right, your confidence grows, and others hear it too.

And most importantly: anyone can play. Music has never been this accessible.🎵

Producing sound on the recorder is very easy — after all, everyone knows how to blow. The key is gentleness. Play softly, almost like a whisper, using the syllable “tu” instead of words.
These whispered “tu” sounds can be short or long — just like the notes in a melody.

For example, instead of the words of a carol:
“We wish you a merry Christmas…”  you gently blow:
“ tu    tu    tu tu tu tu tu    tu  …. ”

This is a simple and proven way to create a clear, beautiful tone — this is called articulation.
Remember: don’t blow hard like on other wind instruments. On the recorder, less is more.🌬️🎶

Good luck and enjoy making music!💛🎼

To learn the main fingering on the descant recorder (baroque) is very easy. Get aquainted with it now. The descant recorder (baroque) has one hole at the back and seven holes at its front. All holes are numbered from 0 to 7, making "a chain". This chain always starts with the hole on the backside (0). The main digit shows fingering by pointing out the length of the chain to be covered.
Holding your recorder
RIGHT HAND Thumb is supporting the recorder underneath, all other fingers are acting above. LEFT HAND The Thumb is covering the hole at the back. The First finger covers the hole nearest your mouth. Note that the little finger is never in use!
means that all holes from 0 to 7 are covered by the pads of your fingers.
means that all holes from 0 to 6 are covered by the pads of your fingers..
means that all holes from 0 to 5 are covered by the pads of your fingers..
means that all holes from 0 to 4 are covered. Right-hand point finger covering hole nr 4!!.
means that all holes from 0 to 3 are covered.
means that all holes from 0 to 2 are covered.
means that all holes from 0 to 1 are covered.

a.d.a.m. introduces minus

The main digit may be followed by a minus sign. The holes pointed out after the minus sign are excluded from "the chain" and must not be covered.

means fingering 6 while excluding hole nr 4
means fingering 2 while excluding nr 1
means fingering 2 while excluding 1 and 0
means fingering 2 while excluding 0
Fingering with upper 0The left-hand thumb does not mentirely cover the hole 0. It leaves a very small openning. To learn this skill (known as pinching) bend the thumb as you'd like to enter the hole 0. Cover holes from 0 to 5 with 0 slightly open.

About orientation

:Ithe most common sign of repetition, play all over again
I:must be repeated from that point
%repeat last grupp of digits
DaCapo alFinerepeat from beginning to the FINE
=the same grip (replay grip)
_means that the sound is prolonged, sometimes quite much
