"Baroque" (english) or "german" recorder fingering? How do I know?

It's easy. Explore your recorder. Look at lamp (hole) #5. If it is much smaller than the other "lamps" you are dealing with the german fingering system.

Holding your recorder
RIGHT HAND Thumb is supporting the recorder underneath, all other fingers are acting above. LEFT HAND The Thumb is covering the hole at the back. The First finger covers the hole nearest your mouth. Note that the little finger is never in use!
means that all holes from 0 to 7 are covered by the pads of your fingers.
means that all holes from 0 to 6 are covered by the pads of your fingers.. means that all holes from 0 to 5 are covered by the pads of your fingers.. means that all holes from 0 to 4 are covered. Right-hand point finger covering hole nr 4!!.
means that all holes from 0 to 3 are covered. means that all holes from 0 to 2 are covered. means that all holes from 0 to 1 are covered.

a.d.a.m. introduces minus

The main digit may be followed by a minus sign. The holes pointed out after the minus sign are excluded from "the chain" and must not be covered.

means fingering 2 while excluding 0 Fingering with upper 0The left-hand thumb does not mentirely cover the hole 0. It leaves a very small openning. To learn this skill (known as pinching) bend the thumb as you'd like to enter the hole 0. Cover holes from 0 to 5 with 0 slightly open.
